The HCACDL is formed exclusively for charitable, scientific and educational purposes including, without limitation, the following purposes: I. To bring together by association, communication and organization, members who are actively engaged in criminal defense law; II. To promote study and research in the criminal defense law and related disciplines; III. To disseminate by lecture, seminars, publications, and other programs of continuing legal education, the advancement of knowledge of the law as it relates and is ancillary to the field of criminal defense practice; IV. To promote improvement in the proper administration of criminal justice in Hillsborough County and the State of Florida; V. To foster, maintain and encourage high ethical standards, integrity, independence and expertise of defense lawyers in criminal cases; V1. To foster trust, integrity and transparency between defense attorneys, clients and the citizens of Hillsborough County; VII. To foster periodic educational meetings of defense lawyers in Hillsborough County and to provide a forum for material exchange of information regarding the administration of criminal justice, the protection of individual rights and the improvement of criminal law, its practice and procedures; VIII. To interact with and support the efforts of the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.

Since 1979, the Hillsborough County Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and its members have worked to provide the criminal defense lawyers of Hillsborough County with the highest quality of leadership possible. The mission of the Hillsborough County Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers is to be the recognized leader of Hillsborough County’s criminal defense industry by promoting the professional interests and business successes of its members through sound stewardship, governmental advocacy, continuing education, and professionalism.
The organization has been working with the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the Florida Bar on several levels to promote viable legal practices to establish sound legal practices and insure the vitality of our profession for the future. Over the years our members have also published and distributed legal standards for protecting accused criminal defendants in Hillsborough County as well as the state of Florida. This organization and our members continuously produce public services to provide industry professionals, governmental agencies, and the general public with the tools necessary to protect the rights of citizens that are accused of committing alleged crimes. The HCACDL and its members do our civic duty for the promotion of sustainable legal defense practices.
A campaign for stronger governmental advocacy has been an important part of the organization for several years and continues to be an important focus for the association in the years to come. Presently, our members are very active in working toward ways which will further assist the profession posture itself for our future and the future of our citizens in our ever evolving industry. State Legislation continues to impact the environment that we practice, if these standards continue, they will be used to further hinder and limit the rights of our criminal defense rules and procedures. HCACDL works in the network of our members and other organizations to promote sustainable criminal defense practices and education that will significantly change the landscape of our industry in the years to come.
The Association has focused on continuing education as the necessary vehicle to provide our members with the vital techniques, skills, and product knowledge for their specific area of expertise. HCACDL has offered a large cross section of free continuing legal education seminars that are useful to all criminal defense professionals, as well as governing agency staff and the general public alike. This affordable expert instruction is offered throughout the year.
The Hillsborough County Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers is reliant on membership to continue to perform as an industry leader for Hillsborough County defense lawyers however; The Hillsborough County Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers Board of Directors needs continued support and participation from the professionals it represents to best serve our industry professionals. It is the combination of member resources and diverse expertise that gives the association its ability to perform for our profession as the industry voice for Hillsborough County.
